I am currantly reassembling the centreboard case on my three tonner and need to treat and paint the timber before it is all sealed up. What is the best paint for this job? I was thinking of using red lead paint but it;s hard to obtain. I was advised to use a mixture of white spirit and boiled linseed oil mixed with red lead powder. I have all these ingredients but I'm not sure of the ratios. Any advice welcomed.

Hi John,

A suggestion I like is to line the CB case with "formika" (?). Gleu it in place with epoxy. This came (I think) from Iain Oughtred) and is what I will do.

In one of his books MG suggests filling the case with old engine oil and letting it drain out with the tide !!! Better not. Especially not here in Germany,.
