seized tiller

Post by wally »

hi i am in the process of renovating a 24ft eventide and its going pretty well......however the tiller is seized and i do not seem to be able to free it....any one have any good suggestions?

it may be the case that the whole of the rudder mechanism needs to be replaced.....if so does anyone know of a source for these items please?

any ideas gratefully received

Hello Wally, the rudder will have been a one off to the drawings, they all were, so no one shop for bits sadly.

If the rudder is in that much of a state I would suggest removing it all and strongly consider going for the MG transom hung version instead. See the hints and Tips page for the drawing!

I have converted 2 Eventides and would never go back!

Hello wally,

If you go to the Home page of the site on the left you will see topic buttons. click on Hints and tips, on the page that opens there is a section about rudders. it has a frre drawing of the better transom hung rudder set up. Failing that you have to copy what you have in galvanised pipe and steel. best get any steel galvanised too. Not half as effective as the rudder on the stern though!
