Prop Size?

Post by Zanzibar »

Does anyone have any ideas as to what size/ pitch propeller I should be running on my 3 tonner? The current 3 blade prop looks a little undersize and the engine does not seem to labour in any situation. I am running a standard, raw water cooled volvo md 1 of 1970 vintage. any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Many Thanks, Mike.

prop pitch

Post by helenrose »

hi, there a number of web sites available, use google and type in" prop pitch" and see what comes up,when i re-engined my boat in january of this year i was faced with the same problem, the engine i put in was 4hp larger than the old petter, the web sites are provided free by the various prop suppiers so you can do your own calcs and not glog the phone lines, when you calculate the right prop they then double check and bobs your uncle all sorted,my prop was within the parameters so i could keep it. hope this helps chris.
