gh or eventide Yankee/Jib on a bowsprit

Post by JFJ »

Hi all

In the gale yesterday, I had a furler mis-fire, which destroyed my Yankee on Iris

I may post (in the log) the adventure of recovering it - the boat pulled her mooring and 1/2 ton ground chain for 90 yrds through crowded moorings - so it was a journey!

If anyone has a source for a yankee, in tan/red I would love to hear.

I always thaught that my yankee was undersized anyway - so if anyone even has the measurement for this I would appreciate it.

Regards

An update -
I phoned round some sailmakers

Jeckells have made one before - in the early naughties

The sail that they made last time was a yankee - 31ftX24X14 ft

This is significantly bigger than the 27X20X10 that I currently have - though also highcut
to me, it seems almost too big. I know that the last GHs 26s had a signifant set of modifications to make cat B - was reducing headsails one of these mods?

https://www.calculator.net/triangle-cal ... &x=37&y=22
is the new sail dimensions

while
https://www.calculator.net/triangle-cal ... &x=44&y=12
is the new one.

Depending upon 'belly', the angles are 110 (new) and 125(old) clew angles....

What do you think? It would be a grand any which way I go - I dont want to waste it!

OK update 2.

I have 3 quotes (pending more detailed measurements)

Crusader (best price) - 'suitable' cloth weight
Jeckells - Most expensive - 5.5 oz cloth
Arun/Rockall (the original sail was made by Arun) - 6Oz - in between price.

All 3 are recommending a much larger Yankee - 29-31 ft, with approx 14 ft LP (LP is a measuremnt I can only guess at as I dont have a clew left in the original!)

Crusader will pop in a foam luff for a few extra quid.

Has anyone experience with any of these guys?

All those sail makers have been around since Noah, so have stood the test of time!

You pays your money and takes your choice.

If the sail is on a roller reefing, the additional foam in the luff is a good idea, will make it set better reefed.

Good luck,
