GH 31 Ketch main mast position

My last Hind Pitterpat was a sloop. I am now thinking of buying Charisma, a ketch. I need to know if the main on the ketch is stepped in the same position as the sloop. I was a good friend of John and Virginia Meulenburg, Charisma's original owners and I would love to restore her but as a sloop, not a ketch. Help and ideas please.

I can't help with the Golden Hind, but if it helps the mast on the Sloop rigged Waterwitch is 1ft futher aft than on the Ketch rigged boat, 13ft aft of the stem for the sloop as opposed to 12ft aft on the Ketch. It might be simmilar on the GH.

Thanks Lukedh, I suspect it will be similar on the Hind but the ketch is in Belgium with the owner in Brazil and I don't have
access to either ketch or sloop or any drawings. I can't locate Terry Erskine or Mark Urry who would be the only ones with
detailed drawings.
Would be ideal if there is a member out there who could measure one or the other for me. Would even earn them a tot.

Hi Dave,

Do you still have the drawings, A copy would be a great help to me in rebuilding my 1966 Hartwell GH no 18.

Hi Chris.

A month or so ago, I unexpectedly turned up an old and faded, but usable, drawing of the ketch rig, which I sent on to John at Eventides. It's a big drawing (A1 or A0??) with all the basic info on sails masts and rigging. John may not even realise yet that it was included in the middle of a big pile of miscellaneous stuff I sent him rather than ditching it. If you contact him I'm sure he will be happy to help you out.

Good luck.

Hello All,

Yes I have found a sail plan in amoungst all the paperwork and will have to have it scanned on a large machine, as it is too big for my A4 scanner. It is a shame Dave never came back so we could save these old drawings for all to enjoy, we have a small collection now, mainly thanks to Mark, and hopefully they will be of use to some owners.

Normally I would say, we could not assist, to the owner of a Junk Rigged 31 in the USA, he of course is well outside the normal scope of sail plans that we have, but as it happens the Junk Rig Association have just shared a rig plan for the GH with us and are promising one for the WW as well, they do come out of the woodwork, eventually!

I intend to gradually sort through all the literature Mark has kindly sent in and add it to the pages, bit at a time, there is a mass of it! OK some we already may have, but if in the pile there is a better copy, then will scan and add that instead, may take a while!

Regards,
John
