New owners of Cinabbar

Postby JollyRoger » Mon June 4th, 2012, 12:11 pm

Hi there folks,
We are the proud new owners (or rather, will be shortly) of "Cinabbar", a Barbican 33 Mk 2 shown in pictures on this website.
I would be interested to know a few things about her and her kind.
First off - Anyone know how many Barbican 33s where produced? (Mk 1 & 2) over the years?
Regarding Cinabbar herself, I know she has reached the Golfe du Morbihan, but anyone know how far she has been in that (or other interesting) direction?
Finally, we know she wont fly in a light breeze, nor sail that close to the wind, but it would be interesting to know the sorts of speed through the water we could expect in a reasonable wind (force 4 -5) and maybe an idea of how close she might reasonably sail in such winds - By the way, our previous boat was a Moody 29 bilge keel, fat and heavy but good in a blow, like we hope Cinabbar will be.

I just love the name of this boar, very clever!

Sadly we have no difinitive numbers for the Barbicans produced and the waters were middied slightly by there being s few home completions and even a few of the earlier Atlantic clippers hulls built to look like Barbican, without the Capt Pugwash aft cabin!

One day records of info may come to us.

We do know that the later ones were nostly without the centreboard and that there are at least 2 that were built with MG;'s original L shaped board.

The leaflet we have reproduced has not given hull numbers and not all had Barbican sail numbers either, some had 'Y' numbers...

One day.
