Freight rates to Australia for a YM Senior

Postby John Slevin » Sun January 2nd, 2011, 5:08 am

Can anyone give me some idea of the cost to bring a YM senior from the UK to Eastern Australia, preferably on a road worthy trailer.
With some guidance here I can try to buy a suitable Senior.
Alternatively is there any likelehood of a second hand Senior coming on the market out here?
As a previous builder/owner of an E26 (still in the family) I believe that going sailing will give me some relief from the
Test Cricket results!!
Thanks and waiting hopefully.

Thank you Chris for both replies. As probably evident I have started building
a Senior rather than buying and shipping to Aus.
I am as usual unsure as to the best Senior headsail rig - whether to use a genoa
on the bowsprit for light weather and a small staysail for stronger breezes or
to go for the outer jib and inner staysail as per SHELLDUCK.
I wonder what experienced owners believe to be the best? As far as appearances
are concerned the split headsail (SHELLDUCK) arrangement is the most attractive
to me and probably easier to reduce sail. All headsails will be on roller reefing.
Any ideas anyone?
Incidentally it is most gratifying to be able to ask questions and get answers.
Whoever conceived the idea of the EOG website and forum has done a great
service to boat owners and builders who are not shipwrights.

What about trying this for a sail plan?

She is for sale here

http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/NPC024?utm_source=AllBoats.com&utm_medium=dynamisch&utm_campaign=AllBoats

And is described as a

Yachting monthly senior 16ft
16Ft double chine two berth cruising yatch with centre plate

Built from plywood in the 1950s by the disigner Kenneth Gibbs
Originally a mast head bermudian sloop, she was newly rigged as a gunter yawl in 2001 with Douglas fir spars and cream terylene sails. A pocket classic in need of some attention including a lowrance x-23 echo sounder and fishsinder
