I have a tinned steel fuel tank in Meldrum, That as far as I can see Is perfectly sound with little or no corrosion. It is original 45 years old and I did not intend to replace it. However I recently read in the BSS guide that tinned steel is not an acceptable material for a fuel tamks construction. Does anyone know why, as The existing one has done its job for 40years and is still in good condition.?

Not heard of this one, we had plated tanks on our old police duty boats and they lasted 30 years without a problem. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'!

If going for a new tank you can have s/s made, I did, but at a price.. or you could look at the variety of plactic ones available now.
