Hi,i have an anode on each bilge keel on my Eventide 24,they are connected to earth in the boat,is this correct?or should they not be connected,i noticed that when i replaced them they weren`t wired up,and they were still eaten away.

any ideas anyone?

I have one double sided doughnut shaped anode on each bilge keel, through bolted and in contact with the steel. They are eaten very slowly 10 years, but the bilge keels are not.

I have a further half pearshape anode, (blunt end forward!), fixed under the aft end not far from the prop. this is connected inside with heavy (5mm) copper wires to the engine from one end, and to the prop shaft via a metal strap that rests on the shaft inside, near the stern gland.
This connects the prop and shaft.

I have had no corrosion on prop or shaft, but the anode gets half eaten away in about 5 years. Time for a new one next year.

Well worth the pennies!

I would renew the wire on through hull mounted ones and bond them to the motor and shaft to protect the prop...
