Lister engine

Post by tfol »

Hi everyone, I am new to the group and am looking at a GH which is for sale in Florida. It has the original 1978 Lister engine, 22hp I'm told. It seems to start right away and run smoothly but the fact that it's 30 years old and raw water cooled scares me. Can anyone tell me what to look for or should I just try to adjust the price to replace the motor? Thanks, in advance, Tom

Hi welcome to the forum, the lister is a good engine,as long as it doesnt smoke excessively and burn lots of oil it should be ok,these are solidly built engines and the fact that it is 30 years old makes no differance in my opinion, they are easy to work on and spares are relitvley cheap.if you can "road test" the boat and run the engine at 3/4 revs for about 30 mins then it should show up any problems,
good luck.
Chris.
