Almost all the YM designs

We have now scanned in the 3 Tonner and the WildDuck to add to the list.

The Steel sheets I helped to draw up are on theri way to us and that just leaves a few sheets we do not offer to give away at cost...

The Mouette is one design we have never tracked down..... do you have a set we can scan?

We are also short of the WW in steel, a set of sheets that were given to me by Y.M in a box of old books and plans, that were drawn up by a Dutch gentleman. Sorely like to get hold of them again.

We are short of a Gaff rig sail plan for the 3 Tonner too....

In addition however we have the Riptide now being built in steel by our advisor and a set of conversions is in the offing. When they are done, they will be included in the CD.

We even have a Ferro Eventide drawing included in the Eventide CD and just to top if off we are sending out a CD again at cost, of MG's Barrier Reef design, the 38ft Ferro version of the Good hope design. Both are on the CD.

We would like these drawings to live on and encourage anyone who has one of these CD's, to copy it to their friends too!

Given that we are almost 2 years further on, what are we missing now?

Well it is a while since the first entry... and in the meantime we have acquired every sheet of drawings from the YM designs, from the Junior up to the Riptide, and all the steel versions as well, (except the Wild Duck!). We have got hold of the Senior booklet that Martin Lewis wrote and a lot of that has simply been printed on the site, along with the information about the extended bilge keel option he had drawn up and built... In addition we have the book I help to rewrite, 'Building Chine Boats' and hope to take chapters of that and add it to the site as 'open access' information.

Then we have the other designs, the Tidewater, Blue water, The Good Hope and the Barrier Reef. All sheets donated. We also have acquired a set of drawings for a Steel round bilge 25 footer from Alan Buchanan.

We have some drawings of the GH and recently we have been approached by someone with more MG drawings, all of which we can scan and save digitally, sending out to members on CD at cost.

This has enabled so many to restore their boats, and a few to contemplate building.
Better still the 16ft Senior hull has been professionally re drawn for stitch and Glue construction and quite a few sets of these drawings have been sold by the Architects. We supply the CD with the rest of the boat details on it...

There are still drawings out there we would love to preserve, other MG designs, Buchanon's and maybe Gibbs, what ever comes along from the designers in our group. We already have preserved all Colin Faggetters work....

We have been in existence over 8 years now and have a membership of approx 900. Not bad for a bunch of dinosaurs Eh!

It would be good if there were a list of the CD's available, either here or on a CD's for sale page.
I would also like to see a comparison page explaining the unique features of a particular design, because when I look at each designs page and photographs, they all just look so similar.
f.e the waterwich, golden hind and riptide are all about the same size, but are there any advantages one has other another?
Thank you.

Good ideas Steve, but I thought that was exactly what is on the designs page??? and the specs page?? That also lists the CD's.....

I will have to look to see if any of what you suggest is missing, but from memory it is all there. Down to descriptions of every design, I think I wrote most of them!

If I can add anything missing I will do,

Thanks
John

Just checked all the CD's listed against the designs on the specs page.

I am assuming that if you are interested in a particular design you would look at the specs page....

As for boat tests, we can only print what we have and do not have actual comparison tests, nor sail tests for the Barrier Reef etc...

Perhaps we should ask owners to send them in!

john

The specs page gives the dimensions of a boat, but does not tell me the advantages one design has over another, for instance the Waterwitch is simply a bigger Eventide, the Riptide was designed to be "able to make long distance ocean voyages", but what is it about the Riptide that makes it more suitable for long ocean voyages than the Waterwitch.
I was not suggesting that you John, do this comparative description, I was hoping that members with experience of 2 or more designs post to the forum with their opinions which might eventually be condensed into a simple comparative description page, I was certainly not suggest any kind of testing.

Hello Steve,

The list is not extensive I grant you but it includes all the drawings we used to sell before the old assoc died, plus a few others of MG's we have collected and a lot of Colin Faggetters.

The way you have written the list it looks as if the WildDuck and 3 Tonner were not Alan Buchanan's though, they are..

Best of luck browsing through them all!

Regards,
John

Does the Riptide CD include plans for the Noontide 32?
Thanks.

Hello Steve, yes the Noontide is only slightly different at the stern, and that can be seen on the drawings, of course the original Noontide was built in Steel...
