It's a pity that the site is not very current

I notice that most of the posts are quiet old and out of date. As an ex Eventide 24 owner from Ireland its always nice to read other peoples experiences of the best little ship afloat.
I was the very proud owner of "Twenty Pence" which was previously called "Syonara" for 10 years until it slowly rotted away under me. It was like a military jet which takes 10 hours maintenance for every 1 hour flying and eventually became too much for me. During the years i owned my Eventide 24 i grew to love it like a family pet with it flaws and faults and it wonderful character. I still mourn it's passing and doff my cap when passing a friends harbour where her mast now stands at the entrance. I now sail a McWester 27 called Ytenne which i love dearly but will always remember the wonderful little ship designed by Maurice Griffiths. I have a friend who met an eventide sailing out of Singapore many years ago and when he asked the skipper where he was bound for, he replied..England..............so.enjoy your little ships and fair wind to you all

Hi John,

I know what you mean,i had an Eventide 24 for five years,she was my first wooden boat and i fell in love with her,

she didnt need much looking after as her hull was epoxyed and her topsides cascovered, all she needed at the start of the season was a wash down and she would look fine,her cabins were nice and cosy and warm even in winter,

about six weeks ago i took a young American lady out for a sail and she loved the boat so much she asked to buy her,when i said she was not for sale she made me an offer that i would have been a fool to turn down,

so i said yes,

Within a week the boat was gone! i was devasated, so was my wife what were we going to do?it was like someone had chopped my right arm off,what was going on?it was only a bunch of ply and paint and sails after all,

Three weeks ago i bought a Nova 27,nice boat but not the same yet,she needs some interior work which will see the winter out,then i will sail her and get a feel for her personality,

This site is as 'current' as members make it, what john moore do you suggest we do about it? torture them until they post articles!

Our members are quite laid back about this supposed 'non current' state of affairs.

So then who are you john moore or should that be Jonny 1 post? to come on here and criticise and complain that 'the site is not current' as you just have in your initial post on here, nice start eh! I don't think so.

Perhaps if your input had had a little more positevety to it it would have helped redress your feelings that our site is aged and out of date.

I don't know what sort of reply you expected when the first sentence in the first paragraph of your first post states

Perhaps if your initial attitude had been a little different, then maybe you would have had a more friendly response,

Given the circumstances which led to this website being set up, I felt that some of the content of your post was very provocative and uncalled for,

this may have been an over reaction on my part, if so I apologise.

But the same criterion still apply in that, This site is as 'current' as members make it, and we can't force them to post!

Having said that I also notice that while your first visit/post was on the 6/7 November 2009

And that it has taken nearly 3 months (until 29 Jan 2010) for you to return & reply with your second posting on here,

Oh dear... discord... this is not what we are about, please, please!

Sadly Chris is right in one respect, these pages are only as in date as contributors make them. The Website generally is updated weekly and sometimes even daily, it takes a great deal of time and effort so to do. If anyone posts on these pages they have to wait and see if anyone notices, and often the forum is not visited for ages by many of our members, and even I find it difficult to keep up with these pages as well as the Stop press page and all the entries on the site....

Sorry John you feel agreived at the lack of action... Hey ho cannot please them all. Perhaps you have had the time to browse all the pages of the site and did not find what you were after. personally I think that unlikely, last count it was 1.2 Gb of information, absolutely huge!

If anyone wants attention, this is not the place for instant results, instead why not contact us on enquiries@eventides.org.uk... there we can reply instantly and pass a query along.. Or visit the Advisors page and ask one of them that volenteer.

I feel sad that you have not contacted us directly if you had a problem, or wanted maybe to trace your old boat... thats what we are about, helping and advising.. the site has many pages of advice and comment, about 5 thousand of them I think.....

Sad you too John have sold your Eventide, but they do take a bit of TLC to keep in sea kindly order, and in todays busy environment not too many have that time.

I would certainly be happier to see the forum a little more active. I guess the difficulty is getting a little momentum going, so that our little online community warms up.

I have found the site very useful and I really appreciate the help and advice I've had. Can I suggest though, that whilst there may well be a lot going on in the background via email, it might be better to have those messages appearing here (where appropriate) as that would help counteract the incorrect view that there isn't much going on and would allow everyone to contribute and to learn

I can't make meets and would love to be able to mosy along here of an evening and chat online about my fabulous boat

Hi Chris,

The point I was trying to make, rather badly, was that whilst I hope we would both enjoy that discussion, it would be private between us. I'm trying to make the distinction between a telephone conversation between two people and the same conversation in the pub. Having a conversation more publicly such as via this forum allows others interested to join in too.

I also log on here most days and chip in where I can. What I was suggesting was that if visitors here were encouraged to raise there questions here rather than by a private method such as email then we would all have the opportunity to benefit from the answer and contribute if we've encountered the same issue. That would have the additional benefit of allowing some of the 900 members scattered around the world actively participate

To be clear, I'm not knocking anything, all is said in the spirit of building on the excellent work you and John have done so far

Perhaps if others who pass through here looking for new posts would like to throw in a "Me too!" that would help indicate interest?

If the forum were to have its own button on the blue navigation bar at the top of (most) pages, people might use the forum more, currently it is hidden under the advice button, "out of sight, out of mind".

I would imagine that the first page regular users of this website look at is the stop press page, so if that content were in the forum, with a link taking the user straight to the forum when they selected "stop press", then people would be using this forum more, whether they intended to or not.
Similarly, the sales and wants could be in the forum as well, they already have threads here.

Regarding Ramilles ,she is in Cumbria now,will be re launched at Whitehaven on Fri .Sailed on the Crouch at Easter - lovely area.
