I'm looking for the MG book "round the cabin table". Unfortunately it is not longer available. Does anyone have a spare copy that I can buy?

I have over 40 copies of MG's books and that is one that still eludes me!

There is a link to 'Abe Books' on the books page of this site, that might help, or try Amazon. Often used copies come up.

Sometimes E-Bay has MG books, but the prices go through the roof!
People seem to get silly on there.

Best of luck finding a copy, If I find a spare one I will let you know!

I have a book not on your list, but perhaps this is as it's only edited by MG. Called "Cruising Yarns from the "YM" " Griffiths. pub 1938. Introduction written by MG , finishes "MG Yacht Lone Gull RHYC". 15 short yarns by such as E B Tredwen, Erskine Childers (titled "A Drift to the Baltic in a 7 Tonner"), Percy Woodcock, & Albert Strange (the others I don't recognise).

Many years ago I bought a large pile of (American magazine) Rudder, Yachting Monthly's (ranging from pre first World War up to about 1930), and MG's first magazine "Yacht Sales and Charters". Many of the short stories in the books were in the late 20's YM, and appeared to be longer versions, or have photos whereas they weren't in the books. Unfortunately, and much to my regret, I didn't buy an even bigger pile of 1930 onwards YM's, too dear at £50! I've often wondered whether there are more or extended MG tales which most of us haven't got.

Yes MG Edited a lot of books, he also wrote the preface to several.... I have seen one on navigation with his preface. Sometimes I might be tempted to buy them, but not often.. I have not attempted to list them all....

I have enjoyed dipping into 'Round the cabin table'!

John

"Round the Cabin Table" is a good read.

MG was particularly noted, I think, for his writings about voyages within the Thames estuary, and for those who like those particular stories I would also recommend "Shoalwater and Fairway" by H. Alker Tripp and "Swin, Swale and Swatchway" by H Lewis Jones.

Very interesting waters, which I enjoy sailing only vicariously, I'm afraid....
