Hi Mat, She sailed wonderfully well,

So well in fact that in 1993 I won the 'Maiden Voyage Trophy'
for my trip from Liverpool to Douglas in the I.O.M. Via Beaumaris then onward to Whitehaven & finally returning to Liverpool

Yes it was in the Irish sea, yes it was rough (Force 8 on 1 occasion)
that is the reason we sailed into Angelsey
as when we were 5 miles or so off Douglas the wind shifted to a north westerly 6 gusting to 8
- right on the nose
we tried tacking but the waves kept pushing the nose off course & we were slowly sailing backwards

we hove to, which she did very well in 3 to 4 foot high waves

After a rest & a cup of tea, we ran the 50 odd miles into Beaumaris Surfing most of the way there under storm jib & a fully reefed mainsail

For ballast I had about 320 lbs of lead hanging under the 1 foot deep keel .
