renaming

Post by sirclippliers »

Hi, I am just wondering if anyone can tell me the correct Naval etiquette for renaming a vessel. I know that if a vessel sinks and there is loss of life, she has to be renamed if she is salvaged and reused ( superstitious sailors), but not sure about just renaming for the sake of it. Cheers, Dave

As far as I am aware, one of the folk laws myths about renaming says it is OK if you have removed part of the boat and replaced it with new. Just renaming it without doing anything is supposedly wrong.

Ships often change names after disasters, or if changing owners, but I bet there are bits removed and added all the time as well so the Folk myth applies.
