I just found your request for information on 'Pampero of Hamble' so here goes:-
My husband and I found her on chocks in (I think) the Mayflower Boatyard in Plymouth sometime in the early 90's. Her hull was full of water and diesel, her gearbox was underneath her on a palette and her engine was seized. She was in a very sad state but, to cut a long story short, we decided to buy her. We had her transported by road to Ridge Wharf in Wareham, near our home, and started the long job of restoring her. We re-engined her with a new Perkins 4108 lowline which was her original spec. engine, re-wired her, re-varnished the interior and had new upholstery etc. etc. etc. By the following year we managed to get her back in the water for a trial run and a couple of weeks later sailed her to Dartmouth and just nudged the bow onto the slip at Phillips Boatyard, where she was built.
By the next season we had repainted her a light sand colour and given her a furling headsail, new tan sails and a spray-hood. She looked similar to this but with all tan sails.http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=4746
During the time we had her she made frequent trips to Dartmouth, the Channel Islands and Cherbourg. My husband and friends took her down through the Bay of Biscay (scary) and she took everything that was thrown at her.
We had bought her with the intention of taking her through the French canals and on to the Med but we didn't manage it before arthritis and a knee replacement put an end to our plans.
We finally sold her around the end of the 90's to a Welsh opera singer who we believe took her to Cardiff Yacht Club.
(We finally made it to the Med and now live in Corfu, but not on a boat!)
