Re: Leaking hull,but not sure where,Riptide 31
Leaks like this are annoying, but I would doubt the bilge keels should cause a real problem unless not fitted as design. The size of the backing timber on the drawings and the bolts and sealant are normally sufficient. Of course if your boat has grounded badly on one keel or suffered some other dama...

Re: renaming
As far as I am aware, one of the folk laws myths about renaming says it is OK if you have removed part of the boat and replaced it with new. Just renaming it without doing anything is supposedly wrong. Ships often change names after disasters, or if changing owners, but I bet there are bits removed ...

Re: Riptide performance - build tweaks
Re the balanced query, that refers to the sail plan balancing the keel shape for helm weight. What you need to achieve is slight weather helm. too much helm slows the boat and is tiring on the crew, cured by adding sail area forward or keel area aft. the keel on the riptide is OK, and no one has com...

Re: Centerboard vs. Bilge Keel - Framing and Reinforcement
Yes, you are correct, the bilge keels create a lot of stress and must be backed with large timbers that span several frames and thus spread the load. The Eventide I have uses exactly the same principle and the bilge keel timbers extend from the fore cabin to the cockpit. If you have a CD of the draw...

Re: Trailer for a Wild Duck
Pleased that helped! Re the overhangs etc, we fitted all out trailers with side and read reflectors, plus bright white mudguards etc. Even bought 2 sets of minature LED bike lamps to fix on front and back of mudguards, just to make sure they were visible at night. We hung the trailer board on the ba...

Re: Athaena - Foredeck repairs
Hello Chris, not so sure about the stainless bolts, unless they are totally sealed in Sikaflex so no part is in the water.. Stainless has the ability to rot twice as fast as cast iron if in waterlogged timber with no air round it, 'Sheilding corrosion' it is called. I would have gone for bronze if t...

Hello Steve, The list is not extensive I grant you but it includes all the drawings we used to sell before the old assoc died, plus a few others of MG's we have collected and a lot of Colin Faggetters. The way you have written the list it looks as if the WildDuck and 3 Tonner were not Alan Buchanan'...

Well you are a brave man! I have not got beyond threatening mine! However I can tell you the box can work either way, so whichever position gives you ahead is correct, or at least that is what it said on my Hurth 35/50 leaflet... I would do what you are now planing, ask an expert and pay up. There i...
