I know you have sold her now Mike, but I wondered how you got the halyard back. I have sorted out internal wires and halyards on many boats, (I do not have internal halyards on fFiddler's Greenf, but there is wiring in the Ali spar. I found the best way of getting wires and halyards up was to use se...

Hi Chris, looking forward to pic of the cleaned up boat to add to the 'Friends' page! AQnd to one of her sailing shortly after! Did you find any details of the 'Kent Class' or 'G Class' that I thought she resembled? Will add a note to the advisors page when 'Heretic' sells, which I am sure she will!...

I will have to put a note on the Stoppress page about your salvage job. Well constructed ramp! Best of luck sorting her out. Very sad that there is no hint of a name nor any idenification on her.. If we just had a Lloyds nuber or some thing.... How do you feel about having a page on the Builders and...

Bobstays

Hi Chris, it is more normal to have chain and a rigging screw. I have a solid rod, but it has end fittings that can be adjusted to shorten or lengthen it, but not whilst fitted. Has to be removed to turn the end fittings.... I fit my bobstay whilst there is no forestay attached, so the length does n...

Outboard brackets

Hi Chris,

I will have to search through the old articles I wrote 30 years back, I am sure I had it published... I think it even went in P.B.O.!

Will appear on the hints and Tips page if I find it!

Registration and legislation

Hi Len, does make you wonder who they are trying to protect with all these rules! Hopefully we do not get like this here... or are we already! Seems the rules and regulations here are getting tighter and tighter, but as many cannot ever be enforced, they made all us police desk bound years ago, what...

Lone Gull

I too have read the 'Lone Gull files' with interest. I think there is a little poetic license in there. Certainly there are some general hull shape resemblences, but only general.. Lone Gull I originally had a centreboard. The fact that a later owner changed that, does not mean it was a bad design f...

Cruising Yarns...

Yes MG Edited a lot of books, he also wrote the preface to several.... I have seen one on navigation with his preface. Sometimes I might be tempted to buy them, but not often.. I have not attempted to list them all....

I have enjoyed dipping into 'Round the cabin table'!

John

Outboard brackets

Apart from making up a fixed one off in mild steel, with the base angled to suit, then galvanising etc, the only other way is to mount a swing down on deep wedge shaped timber pads. My first Eventide 24 needed a bracket, I did just this. the Wedges were cut from a large block of hardwood, then the p...

soft decks

From experience with other GH's the decks are ply and were sometimes GRP coated. Best to cut out any soft patches of ply, to solid and sound wood, then at least 3" further. then go further still so you can join the ply sheet halfway between a pair of beams, NEVER on a beam. A wide butt joint beneath...

MG books....

I have over 40 copies of MG's books and that is one that still eludes me! There is a link to 'Abe Books' on the books page of this site, that might help, or try Amazon. Often used copies come up. Sometimes E-Bay has MG books, but the prices go through the roof! People seem to get silly on there. Bes...
