Re: eventide 24

Hi phil, a GRP Eventide 24?!?!? this is a rare one, hope you salvaged it. I have just been to see a 26 ft GRP version with the database manager, he is now the new owner !! We have heard of several GRP versions over the years, I heard of a 24ft version built by laminating GRP panels and glueing them ...

Re: How can i find out the original name of my eventide

Hello there, If you contact us at enquiries@eventides.org.uk with a sail number, former owners names or even the last name you knew she had, we have records on these boats going back to the 1960's.. I take it you have not enriolled with us or I would have offered to find that out for you when you fi...

Re: Hurth HBW slipping!

Good to see this page is working well.... Hurth gearboxes are great if well maintained, I religiously drain the ATF from mine every season and refill with fresh, it only takes 300cc, it is amazing how dirty it gets in a year.... Even so I had a problem with mine.. It is a Hurth 35 boxfitted to a Bet...

Re: Engine beds

hi Chris, Pitch pine was supposed to be the best material, but you try and get hold of some!

I used Iroko for the bearers in my Eventide, but they were bolted to existing Oak ones for the former engine, so Oak would work just the same!

Re: Athaena - Foredeck repairs

Hi Chris, sad to hear Athaena was so bad.. Having seen all the pics taken of her by her former owners, when she went in for rebuild some years back you would not credit this sort of damage.... Underlines the need for scrupulious leek prevention and loads of ventilation below decks.... Think your ide...

Re: 24ft Eventide

Hello Mike, the figure given on the drawings was 30cwt... however that would be ply... slightly later boats with heavier, 1020lb, keels weigh in at 35cwt. I would have thought a solid teak hull would be more likely to be near 2 tons....

hope that helps.

Oh dear... discord... this is not what we are about, please, please! Sadly Chris is right in one respect, these pages are only as in date as contributors make them. The Website generally is updated weekly and sometimes even daily, it takes a great deal of time and effort so to do. If anyone posts on...

Re: Cruise of the "El Lobo" 1965

Hello there, I have looked up our records and can find no sign of the Eventide 'El Lobo' However that is not to say she does not exist but may simply have been sold on and the name changed.. Have you any footage of the sails I wonder, that might have a sail number on them? Failing that we have old r...

Re: lifting the mast

Recall when I had an Eventide 24 with wooden mast I used a pole made up from 2 lengths of galvanized water pipe, about 1 & 1/4 " diameter, heavy and solid... I tied a pair of guy ropes sideways from the top end to the chainplates to stop it wobbling sideways. The inboard end had an 1 & 1/2" angle ir...

Re: weather helm

Hi Chris, Yes more ballast sounds the answer. You could also remove the 3" of rake, it does not need it. If she is balanced in a F£, with ful sail and you can steer with just one finger it is right. Must always have that little bit of weatherhelm so if let go she will slowly round up, even in light ...

Re: weather helm

Hi Chris, yes get rid of the rake, there was far too much on the early designs. The later, post 73 drawings had it reduced, but we took it out altogether in the 1990's as a result of our experiments. Did not realise my article was confusing, will have to have another look at it, it was written a lon...
