Re: three-tonner

Hi Paul, I thought I could help you as I have a set 3-Tonner drawings (from Eventiders) . But there is no Sheet 8 on the CD. I would not rate that as too bad. You will know what sorts of wood you want to use ? Sorry. Originally, I wanted to build a Senior, but after a lot of work and thought, I deci...

Hi John, A suggestion I like is to line the CB case with "formika" (?). Gleu it in place with epoxy. This came (I think) from Iain Oughtred) and is what I will do. In one of his books MG suggests filling the case with old engine oil and letting it drain out with the tide !!! Better not. Especially n...

Hi Eventiders, Yes, I am still there 'though dormant for a long time. When I got the drawings of the 3-tonner, I was amused/surprised to see rowlocks on the coamings. I thought it would be hard work (and impossible in any sort of a wind) to row such a heavy boat. However, I am sure enough people hav...

Hi Martin, Yes the Senior is very heavily built. Add to that 9mm (3/8 in) ply seems hard to get. I have done detailed weight calculations for a slightly modified version (MK 4?) using 10mm ply. Even then I could increase the balast to 90 Kg. If I really do build one it will be this one and I would u...

Hi John, Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I am still not clear exactly what the registration rules are here. They do not seem to have catered for a non.national having a boat and German licenses. As I probably said, I now have licenses to "drive ?" power boats (or sailing boats with more...

Hi All, Just in case any one gets me wrong. I have lived over 30 years in Germany and am pleased to do so. In many ways I found it better than in England. Especially the working climate was much better. That is no longer true. The EU and Globalisation have started a "class war". Firms no longer look...

Hi All, I have now bought a Red Ensign (rather expensive) from England but things are not looking too good. To build a boat I need to extend my garage. Simple ... but nothing is simple in Germany, at least not if it can be made complicated. The extension will extend over the "building limit line". I...

Hello John, Many thanks for the info. I am not at all keen to even try to register in a third country. I would have no idaer about what rules and regulations that would entail. Not to speak of the language problem. My instructor (for the Germam license courses) says he knows people in power and coul...

Hi Eventiders ! Some of you may have noticed that I have been talking about building a boat ( perhaps my Senior Mk.4) . This event is getting nearer, however, living in Germany does have a few little problems. Here is one of them. A German registered boat has to be totally owned by German subjects a...

3-Tonner

Hi Eventiders ! I received the drawings CD last Friday and collected the prints from the local Druckerei yesterday afternoon. I must say, I am quite impressed. Firstly for trhe amount of help AB has provided for the amateur builder. He has gone to a lot of extra work. Secondly the design itself. I l...

3 Tonner

Hi Eventiders, Could you, please, let me know how many of the 3 Tonner drawings you have ? Also how many are still missing ? I would like to have a set, at least all those for the hull versions. I do not intend to build one but what I have been able to find out about it up to now interests me very m...

Liebe Eventiders, Last year I was luckey to find a copy of "Building Chine Boats" on abebooks.co.uk . It looked in perfect, unread condition but on opening the binding started to disintegrate. Now I have a bundle of loose pages but I am very glad to have them. The other Verney book ("Amateur Boat Bu...

3 Tonner

In case anyone is interested, the book is titled "Amateur Boat Building" and was written by Michael Verney and has a foreword by none other than Maurice Griffiths. Published by John Murray. I found a few copies on abebooks and bought one of them. I had completly forgotten that the book deals with mu...

Hard Chine

Yes, as I said above, more work but easier, especially for one like me who is single handed most of the time. However, the bare hull is not even 50% of a completed boat and all the rest is the same. Many thanks for your responses. I hope I am not making a nuisance of nyself. I did not want to critic...
