Re: Wooden fender trim for GH

Hi mark, I thought this thread had died, apologies for not acknowledging your reply sooner. Yes, it seems that this is not just a straight forward fix. It also seems that my rubbing strake could not have been of teak , because it rotted almost to a husk. The idea of layering it on is clear, getting ...

Re: Wooden fender trim for GH

Hi John, Just saw the reply. Thanks. Part of the starboard fender has rotted through, so I cut the rotted section out and removed it. It was unusable. I painted the plywood hull underneath with antifreeze(ethylene glycol) , which is like chemotherapy for rot, and now want to put another fender in pl...

Wooden fender trim for GH

Hi, Not sure if I am naming this properly, but I need some trim replaced, and I don't know where to start looking to source it. The wooden beading that is below the gunwale on the GH. I would think that molded plastic would do the job and perhaps not be so expensive ? The wood trim would require han...

Re: Sailing characteristics Golden Hind

Thanks for the replies. I may have discovered the problem. I have too much weight on the stern. extra fuel tanks, paint cans, spare water containers, and two crew in the cockpit. This causes my bow to lift a few inches higher and may be causing the bow to be easily blown off the wind. I know for sure...

Re: Sailing characteristics Golden Hind

BTW I must add that the boat handled the rough weather extremely well. At no time did I feel that it was going to lose it. I now have great confidence in its durability.

Re: Sailing characteristics Golden Hind

Thanks for the reply. I am sailing a masthead sloop 28'6" Golden Hind #7 made by Hartwells. I have not had such poor pointing characteristics before when sailing in lighter wind. In this force 7/8 storm, I had a number 2 storm jib, and a deeply roller reefed main sail. I was maintaining about 4-5 kn...

Sailing characteristics Golden Hind

Hi, I could not find the answers to my questions in the archive,I do apologize if they have already been answered. I recently took my golden hind out and sailed into a 38 knot gale. With roller reefing equivalent to at least 2 reefs, I found I could not tack or sail anywhere near to the wind. With t...

Re: Anodes on GH hull

The boat had been out of the water for over two years, so that could explain it shipping some water. I may just monitor it and see if it settles before I think of hauling it out again. Thanks again for the answers. The transducer problem is one of the few downers about wood in my eyes. With GRP I be...

Re: Anodes on GH hull

Hi Chris, Thanks for the prompt reply. I am now concerned. I did ask the last owner about this and he said that the anodes had been attached in this way when he got the boat, he just redrilled the holes. I do have another anode on the prop shaft. All the electrics(motor etc) on the boat are earthed ...

Anodes on GH hull

I am new to this, and I apologise in advance if I am at the wrong place or am using the incorrect etiquette. I have just purchased a Golden Hind and the previous owner has installed 2 fish anodes on the hull underneath the cockpit on each side of the keel, securing them using drilled holes right thr...
